According to a recent report by Education Week, Maryland scores the top spot in overall score of its public school system. Education Week gave it a score of 84.7 versus a national average of 76.2 (ugh). Massachusetts came in second with a score of 84.6.
While we find it a little sad that the best state receives a B (no A’s out there in our system), it’s certainly all relative. The scores are based on an analysis of each state’s school system across several categories:
- Chance for success
- K-12 achievement
- School finance
- Standards, assessment & accountability
- Transitions & alignment
- The teaching profession
