Where Does That Large Agent Commission Go?

As I’ve mentioned, my house is for sale, listed on the MLS via a boutique agency that provides little more for us than the listing. For the investment of a few hundred dollars, we figured it was an approach worth trying. At some point we may list with a typical (or is it best to now say “full service”) agent. But it’s dizzying to think about the amount of money we will pay in commission.

As a buyer, there’s [...]

Recap of The 2009 REALTORS® Conference & Expo and REBarCamp San Diego

So I’m back from attending RE BarCamp San Diego and the 2009 REALTORS Conference & Expo in sunny San Diego. It was one of the best that I have ever attended from a content standpoint. The sessions were well thought out and the speakers were intelligent, insightful and some were even humorous ( Teresa Boardman AKA @tboard, this is targeted to you).

The Expo was a little smaller than in year’s past and there [...]

The Agent Relationship

Joe Celentano, a dear old friend of mine, became a real estate agent in Connecticut many years ago after a long career in the restaurant industry.  He’d had enough of that – the hassle, the expense, the 24/7 worry.  Real estate is not without worry, of course, but the reward he feels when he helps a family find a home they love is worth it for him.

If I hadn’t stumbled into a relationship with an agent here in Los [...]

So Now What?

We’ve decided to move.  So now what?

As soon my husband and I opened our minds to the possibility of moving, I was flooded with Overwhelm.  No, that’s not a perfume or a superhero or a celebrity’s baby’s name (although it’s not a bad idea).  It’s that feeling that comes over you when you have no.  Idea.  What you.  Are doing.

Roost Real Estate Speak Report

Are you and your REALTOR® speaking the same language?

We see a lot of property listings here at Roost. And we’re self-confessed data geeks. So, when someone came up with the idea to analyze what those listings really tell home seekers, we couldn’t resist the challenge, and dove right in.

We wanted to take a look at some of the most commonly used words brokers use to describe homes for sale, and see how they varied by region and price [...]

Hold your breath but…REALTORS® are ahead of the technology game!

OK, maybe not every one of them.  Maybe not even most.  But I have to say I’m getting a bit tired of reading how Real Estate Brokers and Agents are in the Stone Age when it comes to understanding technology.

I probably shouldn’t admit this, but what the heck…I’m the CEO of a technology start-up…I live in SF, the heart of Technology OZ…and I work 3 blocks from where Steve Jobs announced the new iPhone [...]
