Abundant Homes and Free Stuff to Do in Florissant, MO

I was checking out some information on Florissant, Missouri and found a few interesting items I thought I’d note in this blog about the town.

Located in north St. Louis County, Florissant is huddled in a group of other similar communities. It sits to the south of St. Louis, which also was ruled by the Spanish, and then the French prior to the 1803 U.S. Louisiana Purchase. It’s changed a lot since those days.

According to U.S. News and World Report, temperatures in the area range from a balmy high of 89° to a somewhat mild low of 38° from summer to winter. The population sits at around 50,000. Crime is low and so is the cost of living. Home prices are much lower than the average, and the income is average for the country.

That’s a lot to be proud of for this size of a town. Unemployment is at around 6.6%. That’s lower than the national average.

If you don’t want to, you don’t have to pay to have some fun in Florissant. There are several free things to do in the city. The Old Town business district provides a great setting for walking and window shopping.

If you don’t want to spend money, just take in the great architecture and natural setting. If you’ve got a few Benjamins to burn, however, stop and have a bite to eat before finishing off your viewed trek.

For military enthusiasts, check out the VFW Post. It is open to the public and has several displays of military memorabilia that might be of interest to you.

Don’t forget to take a scenic side trip through the residential areas of Old Town. You’ll find beautiful homes, immaculate lawns and most impressive shade trees from the early era of the town’s history.

While you’re out, you’ll want to check out all the available homes on the market. There is an abundance, and they are all priced to sell.

You’ll see many that have been foreclosed on and are bank-owned. Others that just need to sell in order to avert foreclosure, and others that just want to sell. In spite of all this, home values have been going up incrementally recently. From April to May the values increased by .15 percent.

There are around 424 new homes for sale in the city. New home construction is a good sign that the market may be starting to stabilize; although, foreclosures still make up around 67 percent of real estate on the market. Foreclosures are known to provide great bargains for the discriminating buyer.

It appears that in Florissant, you’ll get a small town feel with big city amenities close by. If you’re looking for a home a little away from the bustling city, this would be one place you’d want to consider.
