Emory’s Own Rank High in Atlanta Magazine’s “Top Doctors” List

I just did a post on Emory University, and now I find that a large number of Emory doctors are being acknowledged for their medical expertise. In Atlanta Magazine’s July 2009 “Top Doctors” issue, 72 of the 165 doctors identified for recognition are doctors from Emory Healthcare and faculty of Emory School of Medicine. That’s about 44% of all that were recognized … and they’re all right here in Atlanta.

The list was compiled by health care research company Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., a national group out of New York that identifies leading doctors in key areas of the country through surveys. The 165 doctors named were selected from tens of thousands of doctors nominated by their peers. Extensive research is conducted, along with screening by the Castle’s doctor-directed investigative team, to determine the best of the best.

This recognition is not an isolated incident for Emory physicians. According to Emory University Executive Vice President Fred Sanfilippo, MD, PhD, Emory faculty physicians receive this type of accolade every day in the form of awards from professional medical organizations, grants from National Institutes of Health (NHI) and other similar sources.

According to Dr. Sanfilippo, Emory’s practicing doctors provide not only exceptional patient care, but they also pioneer discoveries into understanding the prevention and treatment of disease. President and CEO of Emory Healthcare John T. Fox stated that the recognition provides the public insight into the “outstanding doctors that practice at Emory Healthcare.”

Castle Connolly will also be issuing a guide entitled America’s Top Doctors. More than 5,000 top specialists in the country will be profiled, including the 72 Emory doctors recognized in the “Top Doctors” issue. Castle Connolly says that doctors included in the guide will represent the nation’s top 1%.

Kudos to Emory doctors. Continue to rock on with your bad selves.
