Phil Spector Has New Digs Outside Bakersfield, CA

Phil Spector, famous for his foofy wigs, was defrocked as he entered the California state prison system. Convicted of the February 2003 killing of actress Lana Clarkson, he was sentenced last month to 19 years in prison.

His new “breezier” dome look is a stark contrast to the crazier dos we’re used to seeing on him. If you didn’t know who he was, you wouldn’t even recognize him in his most recent mug shot pose taken at the prison’s reception center as he was being incarcerated.

He doesn’t have to worry too much about his looks any longer, anyway. He’s serving time in North Kern State Prison in Delano, just a little over 30 miles north of Bakersfield. As a matter of fact, he probably appreciates his au naturel look. It may help keep away undesirables, if you know what I mean.

How could such a famous and respected icon in the music industry end up behind bars for such a heinous crime? Where did all this go wrong for him? Did it start with his father’s suicide in 1949, and not show up until later? Or, was it the loss of popularity during his waning fame in the 70s?

Some would attribute his most recent eccentricities to the critical car accident that nearly took his life in March of 1974. Had an astute police officer not detected a faint pulse, Spector would have been declared dead at the scene.

Extensive head injuries required hours of surgery and hundreds of stitches. Spector became reclusive following the incident; although, he did experiment in several music production projects that never quite took off in the following years.

All this just goes to show that no matter how much success you have or amount of money you accrue, you’re never too far away from the long arm of the law.
