With all the bad news out there telling tales of towns where new home construction is all but halted, it’s good to know that Twin Falls can report numbers to the contrary.
For the third month-in-a-row, new home constructions permits are up – around 34 percent more than the same time for the previous year. The number of new home permits for August was 27. August marked the third successive month for higher numbers in new home construction permits compared to the same time during the previous year. That’s the highest interval of growth since 2007.
Magic Valley Builders Association President Tony Hughes is not yet calling it a recovery, however. He stated that new home construction is still down; although, the industry has been in such a slump lately that it’s hard to nail down what’s normal.
New Home construction permits issued were for what the building industry considers entry level homes – homes ranging from $100,000 to $150,000. Developers note that first-time homebuyer incentives are encouraging more homebuyers to build homes. Costing less than $99 per sq. ft., new homes are frequently less expensive to buy than existing homes.
Inventory for new home vacancies remained fairly constant compared to June and July. TKO Custom Homes stated that the company has 17 homes awaiting sales and Wolverton noted 20 new homes that are finished and awaiting sales.
