Do You Know The Impact of Social Media On The World?

Here at Roost, we have embraced social media with open arms! But some people and companies still deny the impact that social media is having on the world around them. This is why I was so excited to come across this video that my friend @ribeezie (Ricardo Bueno) posted on Facebook.

This video will blow you out of the water and will hopefully provide a new perspective on what social media means to the world today and into the future. Please take the 4 minutes and 22 seconds to experience a video that even made me go WOW!

  • Hey guys,

Thanks for the shout-out! Normally, I don't watch videos but this one is definitely worth the watch (I think I've seen it a few times by now)... I even previewed it at a presentation the other day. The sheer stats on there are amazing!

The simple fact is, if you're not on some type of social networking site by now, you're not on the internet (I like to think of that as a major lost opportunity on many levels).
  • Couldn't agree more Ricardo. People that are shunning these types of statistics and social networking in general are going to have an eye-opening experience. Glad you found this!
  • Facebook User
That was amazing and spot on!
  • Its frightening...

I am disappointed I couldn't think of something more original to say than "Wow" when it ended. But I agree - wow. Stats don't lie. I am Gen X but keeping up with the world so far!
  • Waow. Clean and sharp, perfect soundtrack.
I am on FB and Twitter, it is where your video found me! At first, I was "not buying Twitter", like talking about lunch and laundry. After 2 or 3 months and 1800+ follower later (I never auto follow back), I have to literally unplug Twitter to get some work done! I still do not know how much business you can really get through it, but in terms of community building, real life networking and visibility it is an incredible tool.
And I am even glad one day I answered a tweet about food, as I met 2 fabulous girls in NYC looking for healthy recipes and life! My Feng Shui Vlog was perfect for them! ;-)
  • Great video, thanks for sharing! The numbers done lie however I have a hard time believing that Google will soon become obsolete for finding information and that we will rely solely on the social graph finding the information and companies we need.

Keep in mind, Google and other extremely accurate search engines already rely on a very social backbone, the links and structure that make up the web. The social graph will no doubt have influence on the results we find in these search engines combined with the linking from other trustworthy resources and they have become eerily accurate at ranking information based on our needs.

While I have a higher consumer confidence in a brand my friends suggest, to limit myself only to brands which my friends have experienced is doing myself a huge injustice of now exploring all of my options and not something I am ready to do just yet, or in the very near future.
  • Anyone that thinks social media is a fad is already behind the curve. Great proof is in your video. Much appreciated for a fine presentation.
  • If you want to see the sources for all the stats you can grab them here: http://socialnomics.net/2009/08/11/statistics-s... (like if you want to include them in a presentation or something.)
  • Amazing video & reflective of what I see happening in Silicon Valley with my real estate clients. Want to buy a house? Web content is better than HomeBuying for Dummies. Suggest an inspector? They Google him and read Yelp reviews.

Thanks for putting it on Roost, and thanks to the Twitterverse for bringing my attention to it!
  • These stats are undeniably powerful and the message is clear that we are in the beginning of a huge shift. It's exciting.

I must add that the use of video here really brings the message home. Well done and thanks Roost for my drawing attention to it. --sukhjit
