I just ran across some very interesting and entertaining subject matter posted recently on the web that I thought I would share. I don’t usually comment here on threads seen on other websites, but I just have to on this one.
A new business, A Woman’s Touch Moving Inc., moved into a house at 5100 Forest Hill, and it has caused some commotion here in Richmond. From comments posted since June 11, it is obvious there is a staunch disparity between what casual drivers through the area think versus the opinions of residents in the immediate local neighborhood.
Some said the moving company had parked its truck on Jahkne. Another, however, commented that the truck was parked behind the house, instead. Several local neighborhood residents stated that they could not see past the truck to exit the alley or when turning off Boscobel Avenue.
Terms like “death trap,” “dangerous” and “hazard” were used eventually to describe the parked truck. Regarding the home, one resident stated that “word on the street” was that the business was a “halfway house.”
Other than the parked truck and the questionable nature of the business, there were two other major issues – whether the company was zoned for business and whether it was legal for the truck to be parked there. Some thought the home did not have to be zoned for business, while others were sure it did. In addition, someone commented that it was a violation for the truck to be parked on the street overnight.
Let’s take a look at this picture again. A business bought a long-vacant house in which to start a new moving company. The business parked their moving truck on the street, which caused visibility problems for their local area neighbors. The moving truck progressed into a “death trap” and the home business escalated into a “halfway house.”
After all the exchange, it appears that the issues have now been submitted to the proper city authorities to resolve.
Why is this story noteworthy? Although the banter was lively and both sides were quite irritated, neither got particularly nasty. That just goes to show the civility of our Richmond citizens!
