Who says the feds don’t know how to chill out. Okay, I admit that wasn’t what they were doing when they visited Venice recently. Federal receiver Burton Wiand’s been bugging the city council over some hangar permits. The FAA landed a few weeks ago to take a look-see over the airport books, ensure the city’s charging enough for leases and that payments were being made to the airport fund.
The FBI didn’t want to be left out, so they’ve made an appearance, too. Fred Watts, airport manager, and Sue Lang, vice mayor, were both interviewed by them. So, what’s up with that, and who will be next to come to dinner in Venice … the CIA?!
We’ve heard a lot about Lang lately in regards to what some consider her one-(wo)man campaign in running the city and a threat regarding an airport property previously owned by Arthur Nadel. Nadel, who is now in the proverbial Sing Sing, has also been in the forefront this year. The old guy’s Ponzi scheme was finally uncovered, so he could be singing from his cell about other illegal dealings.
Of course, Burt Wiand, receiver for the Jet Center previously owned by Nadel, is pushing the hangar expansion issue. Nadel noted in a letter to the city that Lang was holding out in order to devalue the Net Center, since the city wants to purchase the property. The FAA backed Wiand up in his request for hangar permits, and directed the city to list the matter on its agenda.
Regardless of the outward intent, we think the feds just needed a holiday, and what better location than Venice! And they can click Homes for Sale in Venice, FL if they are looking to stay permanently.
