The up-and-coming baby store is settling in to some strategic Dallas real estate. The spot? The old Home Depot’s massive Expo Design Center store located near the Galleria on the Dallas North Tollway. Its parent chain, Bed, Bath & Beyond, just signed a contract to buy the property and plans on moving its tollway/Beltline location into the building, too, which will leave one-third of the space for another anchor store.
With 125,000 sprawling square feet and 12 acres, the building provides plenty of space and parking for sharing and expansion. It has been noted by many as one of the most powerful positions for a retail location in Dallas. Due to the economic slump, some retailers have closed stores and reduced their operations. Others, however, continue to expand and are looking for prime sites. Several contracts were coming in for the sought-after closed Home Depot store property.
With more than a dozen of stores in the eastern part of the U.S., Buy Buy Baby is now breaking into Texas. More than 900 stores nationwide are owned by Bed, Bath & Beyond.
But what does this move of a mega baby store into Dallas mean? The bottom line is that new, big business is coming to town. More retail jobs will be available. Possibly more people will be moving into the community to take up housekeeping, and may decide to purchase real estate. That means fewer homes on the market. The economy will be fueled with the new business. Home values will increase as less homes are available on the market.
The presence of this mega baby store may generate competition in another part of the community, causing greater growth. Good stuff yields more good stuff. Who knows, the advent of Buy Buy Baby store may just be the sign of the beginning of a turnaround in the Dallas economy!
