Fredericksburg, Virginia – The Most Historic City in America

The city boasts the motto of Americas most historic city due to the four significant Civil War battles fought here and the ubiquitous historical sites. The colonial connection is palpable in Fredericksburg.

Established in 1728, the town was named after Frederick Louis, the Prince of Wales, who was the oldest son of Great Britains King George II. Couched strategically between Richmond, Virginia and Washington D.C., the town was a coveted location for both sides during the Civil War and saw some of the war’s bloodiest battles.

With a population of over 22,000, the town sits sleepily on the falls of the Rappahannock River. The city’s crime rate in regards to murder, robbery, assault, burglary and automobile theft falls below, and in some cases more than half below, the national average.

With such a small population, you’d think there’d be nothing to do here in Fredericksburg. It’s amazing, however, how much there is to do and see. With over 1.5 million visitors annually, you’ve got to keep them busy with something! There are over 300 historical sites, top-rated golf courses, horseback riding, hiking, outdoor sports, canoeing, cycling, kayaking, rafting, tubing, water skiing, fishing, boating and so much more.

Some of the notable historical residents and natives of Fredericksburg need no introduction, like George Washington, his good friend Hugh Mercer and his mother Mary Ball Washington, along with James Monroe and John Paul Jones. There are several more recent residents like actor Judge Reinhold, musician Erin McKeown, actor Danny R. McBride of HBO’s sitcom Eastbound & Down, former NFL safety for the Denver Broncos George Coghill, radio show host Derek Hartley, New York Mets starting pitcher John Maine and others.

Auctions start at $10,000 for a beautiful 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom, 2-car garage, Federal type, single family home with 1499 sq. ft. Listings for startling single-family homes are at around $150,000. Stellar condominiums prices begin at $170,000.

So much history and so many other things to do in this town, along with reasonable real estate just make you want to move right into one of the neighborhoods.

Fredericksburg is a community in which you’ll want to call home!
