Founded in 1765 by French-Canadian fur trader, Louis Blanchett, St. Charles, MO sits on the Missouri River just 30 minutes northwest of St. Louis. Blanchett initially named it “The Little Hills.” The first church was built in 1791 and was named after San Carlos Borromeo. It was then that the town took on the name San Carlos del Misuri or “St. Charles of the Missouri.”
The city played an important part in the western expansion of the U.S. and was the last stop of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in the civilized world at the time. With a current population of over 63,000, the city is the second oldest in the U.S. west of the Mississippi and is the county seat of St. Charles County.

Irish Heritage Days, Quilts on Main Street, Bluegrass Festival, Mosaics – Festival of Arts, Oktoberfest and the St. Charles Christmas Traditions that runs Thanksgiving through the Saturday after Christmas are events you won’t want to miss.
Fill your evenings and weekends with outdoor activities like biking or hiking on the Kati Trail. St. Charles sits at one end of it. Hang out with your pooch at the dog park on the north side of the city. Skedaddle on over to the City of St. Charles Skate Park that sets challenges for all levels of skills. Check out the largest go kart track in the Midwest right here in St. Charles, with action for the whole family. Give ear to a country or jazz concert at the UMB Pavilion amphitheater. Meander over to the Missouri Weinstrasse where you’ll find rolling hills, tranquil towns, a plethora of prize-winning wines and wine cellar and vineyard tours. There are a horde of historical monuments to visit all over town.
For indoor activities, cheer on a RiverCity Rage indoor football team, crash at a rock concert at the Family Arena, try your skill at gambling in the local casino resort and spa, peruse an art exhibit at the Foundry Art Center, find whatever tickles your fancy at a fashion show or family theater at the Lindenwood Center for Fine and Performing Arts.
