Founded in 1765 by French-Canadian fur trader, Louis Blanchett, St. Charles, MO sits on the Missouri River just 30 minutes northwest of St. Louis. Blanchett initially named it “The Little Hills.” The first church was built in 1791 and was named after San Carlos Borromeo. It was then that the town took on the name San Carlos del Misuri or “St. Charles of the Missouri.”

The city played an important part in the western expansion of the U.S. and was the last stop of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in the civilized world at the time. With a current population of over 63,000, the city is the second oldest in the U.S. west of the Mississippi and is the county seat of St. Charles County.

Fill your evenings and weekends with outdoor activities like biking or hiking on the Kati Trail. St. Charles sits at one end of it. Hang out with your pooch at the dog park on the north side of the city. Skedaddle on over to the City of St. Charles Skate Park that sets challenges for all levels of skills.
