Littleton, Colorado – the town that’s not so little!

Littleton’s roots are embedded in the Pike’s Peak gold rush of 1859. Trade and farming followed, and the area began to prosper. Without easy access to rivers and creeks, however, it became necessary to build a string of ditches to transfer water to business and farms. This presented the need to hire engineers. Among the hired engineers was the city’s founding father, a New Hampshire native, Richard Sullivan Little. He fell in love with the area, scoped out the land that is present day Littleton, and the rest is history.

About 18 minutes from Denver, you’re far enough to escape the urban madness, but not so far that you feel you’re out of touch with modern society. Littleton is a little like heaven — beautiful, peaceful and serene.

Some of the town’s architecture is a throwback to the turn of the 20th century. Here, history is preserved and considered quite priceless, but modern conveniences are just as treasured. With a population of just 40,646, Littleton makes for a homey domicile. Don’t let its size fool you, though. The town may be relatively small, but it doesn’t run short on culture, activities and luxuries. Littleton not only has the advantages of tight-knit neighborly nods and low crime typical of a town its size, but it’s got the bounty of activities and amenities of those of a metropolis.

There are several distinctions that set this small town apart from the rest. The Colorado Center for the Blind provides training for blind teenagers and adults in certain achievable skills. Littleton is host to the Denver Theological Seminary that boasts its flagship training and mentoring program. “Desert Tortoise,” a very cool Intelligent Vehicle Safety Technologies program, which competes in the DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) Grand Challenge calls Littleton home.

Every city has it’s skeletons in the closet, and Littleton is no exception. Alferd Packer is buried here. He was an American prospector who was one of three people in the U.S. history charged and convicted of cannibalism. Dubbed the “Colorado Cannibal,” it is thought that he killed and ate the flesh of five men he set out with in the mountains to prospect for gold. He was the team’s sole survivor.

History and current day culture collide in the most well-blended manner. Along with all that, you’ll find quality education for the kids and higher education at an accredited community college. Hudson Gardens and Events Center, Town Hall Arts Center and Littleton Historic Museum provide culture for those of all ages.

Swimming pools, golf, fishing, ice skating, a family sports center with rides, South Suburban Parks & Recreation, the Highline Canal Run, animals in the wild, mountain hiking, biking and, hey, it’s Colorado, so you’ve got skiing, right?! Never a dull day in this town.

You’ll find real estate, too, suited just for you in Littleton. With over 4500 listings on the market, there’s got to be one that fits your style. Whether it‘s a condominium, single- or multi-family home you’re shopping for, you’ll want to land in Littleton for the long haul.
