Montgomery, Texas – Birthplace of the Texas Flag!

One of the oldest cities in Texas, Montgomery is considered by many to be the place where the Texas flag originated.  History and culture abound in the tiny one square mile footprint located in western Montgomery County near the southwest edge of Sam Houston National Forest.

With a population of almost 600, you’ll find friendship in this tenacious, tight-knit community.  Founded in 1837, this rustic, welcoming city will engage you in activities galore.  The Farmer’s Market meets every Saturday with the background music of the Acoustic Music Jam Sessions conducted on the front porch of many of the local businesses.  You will not only find seasonal vegetation and baked and canned goods here, but you’ll also enjoy the variety of artisans and their homemade, signature wares.

The top 60 pro anglers in the world will be gracing Montgomery with their presence at Lake Conroe in October of this year for the Toyota Texas Bass Classic.  You won’t want to miss this historic occasion that features a three-event Professional Anglers Association (PAA) Tournament series competition, which will host the best pro anglers from all professional levels for the first time ever.

The downtown of Montgomery looks like a step back to the 1900s.  Many parts of the town genuinely resemble the old west.  Antique stores and other western and modern retail stores grace the tree-lined downtown, along with a variety of eateries.  From clothing to crafts, to fine collectibles, you’ll find it all here in Montgomery.

If it’s outdoor activity you’re interested in, look no further.  Lake Conroe is the place to be for all kinds of water sports.  There are several scenic championship 18-hole golf courses, some seated in country clubs, just minutes away from the city.  You’ll also find many lighted tennis courts that enable play during the day or night.  Other sports accessible for the whole family are swimming, volleyball, racquetball, basketball and other activities scheduled for the kids through the city’s Parks and Recreation programs.

Real estate’s nothing to sneeze at, either.  Starting at $30,900 and climbing to the $4 million range, you’ll find every kind of home imaginable in this tiny town.  Don’t let the size fool you, though.
