It got its name, meaning pretty prairie, from the Muskogee Indians.  Hialeah became incorporated in 1925.  In 1937, Amelia Earhart, America’s first female aviator to fly solo over the Atlantic Ocean, said her final farewell to the continent of the U.S. from Hialeah while leaving on her misfortunate flight around the world.

Since 1960, it’s population growth has surpassed that of the majority of the remainder of the state.  Hialeah is part of the Miami metro area and is currently the 5^th largest city in Florida.  It’s also one of the most prominent employers in Dade County.

If it’s outdoor activity you want, then you’ll find plenty of it in the tennis courts, public swimming pools and all the public parks located in the city.  Wildlife is abundant in the area due to its location.  Birdwatching is a favorite pasttime and game hunting is another.  You can even hire a trained wilderness and hunting guide is that’s what trips your trigger.

Hialeah has an abundance of schools, including public, private and charter schools and one college.  The city even has an after school program called Creative Learning and Play (CL&P) to keep K-8^th grade kids safe and engaged in activites until their parents pick them up.  The program runs Monday through Friday and on teacher’s in-service days.

The morals of the Roman Catholic church are prominent in this community.  If you’re a discriminating individual, or if you are raising a family, you’ll appreciate that, with all of its diversity and push for tolerance, this city is ranked as the 4^th most conservative city in the U.S.
