Most people are familiar with Buckhead when visiting Atlanta but do you know where the area got its name? Buckhead literally got its name from a local tavern that had a buck’s head prominently displayed inside. The area was annexed into the city of Atlanta in 1952.
Boasting some of Atlanta’s most exclusive and luxurious neighborhoods, Buckhead is known for its fine restaurants, grand hotels and premier shopping outlets. The two main shopping centers, Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza, are situated cater-cornered across the street from one another and present residents and visitors with more than 350 shops to choose from. Luxury hotels include the JW Marriott Hotel Buckhead Atlanta, InterContinetal Buckhead and the Grand Hyatt. And don’t forget about the five star restaurants which include MF Buckhead, New York Prime and The Palm.
Located approximately 15 miles from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, there are many ways to get to Buckhead including the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) or via car by way of the main streets into Buckhead which include West Paces Ferry Road and Peachtree Road. Local residents often refer to this neighborhood as the “Beverly Hills of the South”.
